Just back from racing at Alwinton, Northumberland for the first round of the 2012 Northern Downhill Series. A full report will follow shortly but Dan had to sit out on Sunday due to a crash the day before so he had time to get a bit of footage from Sunday’s early practice session.

Having missed a couple of early season races due to illness and injury, the first race of 2012 was finally here for Cynosure rider Dan Stringer and a trip to Moelfre was on the cards.
A quick track walk on Friday night showed that the track was smooth and hard packed after a winter of no races and a recent dry spell of weather. In the first run down on Saturday morning it was clear how fast the track was running especially with the tail wind assisting the pedal down the valley. Towards the afternoon however the track started to break up and the familiar Moelfre braking bumps began to appear, huge holes were forming all over the track and come Sunday afternoon it was running noticably slower for race runs.
A tidy, controlled first race run returned a time of 2:50 and a 12th position which he hoped to improve on going into the second run. Sadly this didn’t go as smoothly as anticipated and he ended up being 4 seconds slower, but only dropped 1 place.
Final result 13th out of 24.
Shout out to Esther, The Drifter and Tom for the banter, Tomo for the goggles and Mike and his team for a great weekend of racing.
Onto Alwinton in Northumberland this weekend and it looks like we’ll be swapping dust for snow!

With only one month to go before the first race of the season, it comes with great pleasure to confirm that Royal Racing clothing has agreed to support the team for the 2012 season. With preparations well underway for the 2012 race season, Cynosure Racing is delighted to confirm that highly-regarded tyre manufacturer Schwalbe have agreed to be the team’s tyre sponsor. Schwalbe need no introduction within the mountain biking world due to their quality product range which helped Brit young gun Danny Hart to his memorable 2011 World Championship win in Champery, Switzerland. The team will be running a mixture of Schwalbe’s ‘Gravity’ range of tyres including the dry weather Wicked Will, Intermediate condition Muddy Mary and the mud loving Dirty Dan.

Cynosure Racing is pleased to announce that Urge Bike Products are to be the team’s helmet sponsor for the 2012 race season. Urge manufacture a number of different helmets for mountain bike and snow disciplines and use recycled products where possible to reduce the use of raw materials, as well as donating 1% of their turnover to protecting the planet. Cynosure Racing is proud to announce the addition of Dan Stringer to its downhill team lineup for the forthcoming 2012 season . Hailing from Teesside, Dan now lives over in Cumbria’s Lake District and following a successful couple of years racing in the Masters category will be joining current Cynosure Racing riders Stu and Nick.
The team will be competing in selected events within the British Downhill Series (BDS), Scottish Downhill Association (SDA), Northern Downhill Series and MIJ events.
Everybody involved within Cynosure Racing welcomes Dan to the team and wishes him all the best for 2012.
With over 3000 miles travelled to attend races this year it was time for the final race of the season which coincidently was at our local track in Hamsterley Forest, County Durham. This race was round six of the Northern Downhill Series and also the North East Championships and with a few top names including Adam Brayton, Scott Mears and World Champion Danny Hart, the turn out was by far the best of the series.
The course was a mix of jumps, drops, trees and rocks and so had a good mix of terrain for both riders and spectators. Starting off on the Descend Hamsterley 4x, the track followed the full length of the course, albeit with a few taped off lines, before dropping off onto a road crossing and a wooden jump which led into the trees. Through the tight trees there were a number of drops before taking riders over a rock garden, which seemed to be the favoured vantage point for spectators’, before a few more drops and tight steep switchbacks into the finish.
The weather on Saturday was sunny and dry which was unexpected for the UK in October but a change overnight meant the track became wet and greasy although not too muddy. Despite a slight delay in racing due to a technical timing issue the riders were soon off and cheered on by a good sized crowd. Nick’s first run was consistent but a mistake by Stu in the rock garden affected his time. With room for improvement for both riders, the second run kicked off. Despite a steady run, Stu’s time was one second slower but an improved run from Nick saw him taking three seconds off his first race time resulting in Stu finishing 17th and Nick 21st.

So that’s it, the season is over for Cynosure Racing. It’s been a good year thanks to all the organisers, marshals, spectators and riders. We’ve got a few months off now until it all starts again.
